St. Denis, 04-30 : After taking Dad to the airport, Rose and I went out to St. Denis (north of Paris), which is famous as the burial place of the kings and queens of France. Unfortunately, during the Revolution, most of the graves there were desecrated and many of the royal remains were burned or dumped in the rivers. So there is not as much left as might be hoped (ALWAYS the case with the religious and/or royal things in France, thanks to the Revolution!!), but it was still quite a piece of history to see!

Dad's Last Day in Europe, 04-29 : On April 29, we went back to the Eiffel Tower, albeit in less than ideal weather conditions. We took the stairs and climbed as high as we could. When the stairs ended, we took an elevator up to the very top lookout. A thunderstorm was rolling in (exciting! ;)), so eventually we came down and went to get a bite for dinner.

Trip to Spain, 04-24 : In Avila, on April 24, we toured the cathedral, walked around the city walls, saw the church at the convent where St. Teresa lived and worked, toured the museum connected to it, and had a delicious supper! :)

Trip to Spain, 04-23 : Monday, April 23, we drove to Avila, Spain and found our way inside the incredible city walls to our hotel. We arrived about 1 pm, settled in a bit at the hotel and then walked around the "Old Town" part of Avila for awhile, stopping for lunch about 2 o'clock. In the evening, we walked around the outside of the walls until the restaurants started opening up (about 9 pm). We had dinner outside in a nice little café just opposite the walls (we were afraid they were going to close the doors and lock us out! ;)) and got back to the hotel - stuffed with very good food! :) - a bit after 11 pm. Thanks be to God for the wonderful weather we had!

Trip to Spain, 04-22 : Sunday, April 22, we spent in Toledo... we walked around the town, watched some authentic jewelry making, looked around some of the lovely shops, and toured the various locations displaying El Greco's art. Toledo was among our top favorite places in Spain!

Trip to Spain, 04-17 : Tuesday, April 17, we went to the Alcazar in Seville - the residence of the royal family in Spain for the past millenium! It was very Moorish in its architecture style - that is to say, very geometric - and the grounds were absolutely gorgeous!! Unfortunately, I was pretty sick that day, so we didn't do as much as we might have, instead calling it a day early and heading back to the hotel mid-afternoon.

Trip to Spain, 04-16 : Our first full day in Seville saw a warm, but beautiful and picturesque, day... We explored the MAGNIFICENT "Giralda" (literally, "Weathervane" named for this attribute of the church), the largest Gothic church in the world, cathedral of Seville, and burial place of the great Christopher Columbus! After a lunch outdoors (complete with Sangria, which was to become the staple of the trip :)), we climbed the ramps to the tower (which used to be Moorish)... quite unlike anything I'd seen or done before. In the evening, we went to a bull fight! It was the first time I'd ever been (of course :)) and was not nearly as 'bad' as I thought it would be. We stayed for three of the six fights before making our way back to the hotel and then to dinner at the tapas bar, Casa Cuesta.
